About My Artwork

Pictures and sculptures for sale or commission

I undertake artwork in the form of pictures created from Sheep’s wool, that has been carded or brushed and dyed, onto a flat background. These are 2D but can appear 3D due to the realism of the piece. I have, in the past, made some 3D models but I have moved away from those and now focus on my portraits.

Pictures created in needle felt

To create a Needle felted portrait, I start by helping you decide on a suitable photo for me to work from. We then decide on a background material and size. Once we have decided, I will transfer the image onto the background material. I then choose the wool colours and hand blend them to match the image. Then the fun starts. I then use my needle to stab the wool in small amounts onto the background material. This takes many subtle layers and lots of blending. This takes many hours to complete I can also offer the option of having some of the animal’s fur felted into the portrait to make this an original and touching memento of your pet. I can either felt it into a small wool heart and put it inside the portrait, or I can incorporate it into the portrait itself. There would be a slight increase in price for this service as dog and cat fur does not felt the same way as wool and therefore takes longer to Felt.
Until recently, I had a dog called Honey who was a “Staffy” (she is features in my portfolio and on the image at the top of this page) and she was a complete Honey in personality as well; she is very, very much missed. After much deliberation we succumbed to adopting another dog. I didn’t think I could love another dog and have to prepare for the inevitable loss that comes with having a dog, but my daughter showed me a video of a Blue Staffy that had arrived at the sanctuary that she works at. I was hooked and Poppy has now been in our lives since just before Christmas. She makes me smile every day and she is the sweetest little thing….although she does have her difficulties that we are working hard to help her with. She’s on my list to do a portrait of.I also have a black and white cat (and also featured in the portfolio) called Bruno, who is the cheekiest Cat you could meet. I am married and have three children (all grown now!!!!) We have lived in various places around the UK and in Naples in Italy and Izmir in Turkey, moving around with the Royal Air Force. I used to work in childcare in Preschools before I was lucky enough to retire early. I also do volunteer work for an organisation called Age UK, where I help older people to fill in forms to get benefits and help. I love reading and going for walks and I also enjoy learning from experts in the field of Needle felting and will take courses whenever I can to hone my skills. I am striving to reproduce photos as accurately as possible and to create real works of art for people to treasure. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or queries and I’ll do my best to help you.
